How to Organize Your Mobile Devices

Yesterday in our ultimate spring cleaning checklist series, we discussed how to achieve inbox zero. Today? We're talking about all things mobile device! Whether you have a smart phone or a not-so-smart phone, a Kindle Fire or an iPad, we've got tons of tips to help you organize your digital life.

  • Bookmark MerusCase on your devices. First things first, if you haven't bookmarked MerusCase on your mobile device, you should! With MerusCase on your mobile phone or tablet's home screen, you can easily access your documents any time, anywhere.
  • Backup your devices and data. Haven't connected your phone to your computer since you first turned it on 1.5 years ago? You're not alone. It's time to start backing up your phone and tablet more often! A quick Google search about backing up your device should reveal simple directions that will have your mobile devices running like new in no time.
  • Organize your apps. You know all those random apps floating around your device's home screen? Shockingly enough, they're far easier to find with a little organization. First, you should go through and determine which apps you're actually using and delete anything that hasn't been touched in over 2 months. Next, organize your apps into folders. When you group similar apps together (i.e. photography, travel, etc.), it's much easier to arrange the folders on your device in a way that makes sense. Finally, stop downloading! Only download what you really, truly need. Everything else? Access it from your laptop, desktop, or phone's browser.
  • Delete any old photos, files, and contacts. If you're anything like me, your mobile phone is constantly running out of storage! After you've backed up everything on your computer, you can comfortably start deleting things you don't need. Apps that you haven't used in 6 months? Let 'em go. That person you exchanged numbers with once and never actually intended to contact? Time to delete! The 30 photos you took in order to take 1 decent shot of the sunset/your lunch/whatever? Only keep the good one. After you get rid of these old files on your phone, you should find yourself with tons of free space for new contacts and apps and memories.
  • Give yourself more space. Is your iPhone constantly full? If so, it might be time to consider a new storage option. Services such as Carousel by Drobpox will back up every single photo you take so that you can store them safely via the cloud. This way, you can delete them off of your phone, giving you tons of space for other things you might need!
  • Sync your calendar and contacts across your devices. Whether you've yet to sync them with MerusCase or you still haven't figured out how to sync your iCal onto your iPhone, it's time to cross it off of your to do list. Sync up all of your devices so that you no longer have to worry about emailing things to yourself when you want to move form your laptop to your tablet to your iPhone, or any combination thereof.
