In case you didn’t know, April 12th is International Be Kind to Lawyers Day!
This annual tradition began a few years ago (recently became internationally recognized!) by a non-lawyer who worked with lawyers on a regular basis. He constantly heard negative remarks or jokes about lawyers and realized that these hard working professionals are rarely appreciated for what they do. Thus, Be Kind to Lawyers Day was born! So today, we hope that all of you lawyers out there feel the love.
If you know a lawyer and you’re looking for some ways to be kind to them, Merus has got you covered. We’ve compiled four ways you can show appreciation to all of the awesome attorneys in your life:
1. Find a law-related gift
Snag a present from the Supreme Court Official Gift Store or send over something on the sillier side, like a lawyer themed adult coloring book. We've also compiled a list of awesome gifts for lawyers under $100 for more ideas.
2. Give them something to sip on
Quench your lawyer's thirst with a nice bottle of wine or whisky and throw in some cute wine glasses as an added bonus! If they don’t drink, I’m sure a large bag of coffee or a Starbuck’s Gift Card will do just fine too--and you can pair this one with a clever mug.
3. Give the gift of relaxation
Lawyers are known for being overworked and stressed out. Help them unwind with a massage gift card, a yoga or exercise class trial in your area, or even email your lawyer a guided meditation audio playlist as a reminder to take a minute for themselves every once in awhile.
4. Say thanks
A simple thank you email, e-card, or an old-fashioned card goes a long way! Add in a couple of compliments, thank them for their help, and since this day started because lawyers are always being ragged on, maybe include a joke about your own profession.
At the end of the day, we know that all lawyers work long and hard hours to help other people, but we don't always get the chance to thank them.
