Are you headed to Washington DC this weekend for the American Immigration Lawyers Association's Annual Conference on Immigration Law? MerusCase team members Brian and Max landed this morning and can't wait to meet everyone (you can find them at booth #323 during the conference)!
Without further ado, here's our top 5 list of the most underrated things you should do in Washington DC:
1. ALL the free things!
One of the best things about being in DC is that so many of the best things to do are absolutely free. From the Smithsonian Museums to the National Monuments and all of the historic buildings in between, you can keep yourself busy for days by taking in the rich history that the city has to offer (without breaking the bank).
2. Take the time to squeeze in a DC brunch
As with any big city, there's no shortage of incredible places to grab brunch in DC. Some of our favorites include Commissary, Birch & Barley, and Open City. For a more detailed breakdown of all the great offerings at each brunch spot, we highly suggest Thrillist as your go-to guide. Whether you're solo or with a large group of conference-goers, an early afternoon brunch is sure to delight!
3. Catch a game at Nationals Park
Although the Congressional game has come and gone, if you're a baseball fan, you won't want to miss a night at Nationals Park! What could be better than grabbing a few of your new friends from the conference and discussing all things 'law' over a few cold beers on a warm DC night? Learn more about ticket pricing and the game schedule on the official Nationals website.
4. Snag a last-minute tour of the White House
It can be tricky to take a tour of the White House (or any of the government buildings) on short notice, but if you have any connections that work at or with the White House, you might just be in luck! No connections? No problem: you can schedule a tour for yourself (at least 21 days in advance).
5. Take The Cupcake Challenge
If you're a lover of sweets, this challenge is for you! In Georgetown alone, you'll find 3 cupcake shops within walking distance that all boast the "best cupcake in DC." Put your taste buds to the test and try 'em all out (Sprinkles, Baked and Wired, Georgetown Cupcakes, The Sweet Lobby, and Crumbs Bake Shop are some of the most well-known). Check out this list of the best cupcake shops around town and give it a whirl!
And that's all we've got for this post -- be sure to follow us on Twitter @meruscase and catch the conference highlights using the hashtag #AILAAC15!
