How to Organize Your Workstation

Today in our ultimate spring cleaning checklist roundup, we're finally cleaning up our workstations! This is the second-to-last topic, so let's get it done, shall we?

  • Organize stray papers. We're all guilty off the massive, overflowing pile of papers that never seems to leave our desk, but while we're cleaning everything else up, we might as well tackle the physical clutter, too. Organize all of those papers and then comb through them: what do you need to keep? What can go? What can get electronically filed on your computer? What can be scanned and uploaded to MerusCase? Sort these piles out and take care of them once and for all.
  • De-clutter and wipe down your desk. Coffee stains, pen marks, food splatters... our desks see it all! After you've managed to cut through the stack of papers lying around, it's time to actually clean. Give yourself a fresh start: wipe down your desk, your keyboard, your mouse, and even clean your monitor screen(s). Let's be honest, you don't remember the last time you wiped down your germ-y surfaces, anyway.
  • Restock office supplies. Are you running out of post it notes? Or maybe it's envelopes? Sharpies, even? It's time to restock! If you find it difficult to remember to pick up that random office item while you're out and about, maybe it's time to think about investing in Amazon Prime. Two-day shipping on almost anything you could want or need: what more could you ask for?
  • Back up computers and files. If you don't already have a system in place for protecting your data, stop whatever you're doing and make a plan right this second! If you use a case management system like MerusCase, your data is already backed up and well protected. The one caveat to this is, if you don't actually upload all of your files, then we can't protect you. You never know when crisis is going to strike: a computer crash, coffee on your keyboard, and the list goes on. Take 5 minutes to upload stray files to your MerusCase account and make sure everything you want and need to keep is backed up in some way, shape, or form.
  • Organize your computer's desktop. We've created a desktop wallpaper to help you organize everything on your desktop! In order to use this handy wallpaper, all you have to do is click on this link, right-click on the image, and "save" it on your desktop. Next, all you have to do is follow your computer's instructions for setting an image as your desktop background. (On some systems, if you right-click on the image on your desktop, you can then select "set as background" right from your desktop. You might still have to mess around with sizing and settings, though!)

That's it for today and we're almost done! Tomorrow is the final segment in our spring cleaning series, but we're keeping the topic a secret, so be sure to check back to complete your 5-part spring cleaning checklist!
